Masters

Masters

Karen Wilson, Milton Keynes Rowing Club, is the ERRC Masters Representative.

The Masters Committee purpose is to establish, represent and advance the interests of: masters rowing, masters rowers and masters rowing competition within England and Wales. The committee recently sent a questionnaire to Clubs seeking views on a variety of issues concerned with the organisation of Masters Rowing and Training.  Three main issues came out of the responses received:

  • Communication
  • It is hard to find good racing
  • There are too many events but not enough masters

The focus of the Committee over the next few months will be:

 Communication

To identify key parties within BR and develop strategies for two-way communications with them to ensure we are able to maximise the opportunities for achieving these objectives – in particular the use of Social Media.

Squad and individual development

To identify and share good practice in developing masters rowing squads – currently drafting ‘Guidelines for Building a Successful Masters Squad’.

Application of Competition Structure to Masters Racing

Work with Competition Committee to define acceptable method for applying competition structure to masters rowers and define and agree tighter standards for application of masters handicaps to masters events.

Finally, the committee also has links with the FISA Masters Commission and is occasionally consulted on issues relating to European and World Masters events.
